As I’m sitting down this morning thinking of what would be a fitting first post, I find myself questioning common logic.
The idea that working hard will get you to where you want to be.
There’s a small fly wasting the last of its short life’s energies in a futile attempt to fly through the glass of the closed window. The flapping wings tell the touching story of the fly’s strategy – Try harder.
The manic effort offers no hope for survival. Ironically, the struggle is self-defeating. It is impossible for the fly to try hard enough to succeed at breaking through the glass. Nevertheless, this little fly has gambled its life on reaching its goal through raw linear effort and determination.
Across the room, a couple of meters away, the door is open. A couple of seconds of flying time, a fraction of the effort now being wasted and the small creature could reach the outside world it so desperately seeks. It would be free of this self-imposed trap.
Why doesn’t the fly try another approach? How did it get so focused on the idea that this particular route is the promise of success.
No doubt this idea makes sense to the fly. Regrettably, it’s an idea that will kill.
The depiction of the struggling fly is like us in our businesses. If you are a high achiever you sometimes feel the melancoly of being that fly. You know you could be doing so much more.
I think the answer to not feeling like that is to take a step back and analyze the situation. With the right systems in place I believe it is possible to proactively change courses at any moment’s notice.
This blog is intended to be my personal journal depicting the growth of my online business and the implementation of systems to help it scale.
